this week in first grade my school has been celebrating staff appreciation.
so far i have been thanked with coffee and donuts (these people really speak my language) by the parent teacher association in my district. today, however, was specifically teacher appreciation day. i was very touched by the sweet sentiments my kiddos shared with me but i wanted to share with you all how appreciative i feel. first, i feel so fortunate to be where i am. i have had such a positive experience student teaching thanks to a variety of factors. my schooling from miami played a huge role in this. i could not be where i am without the pushes and encouraging kicks in the pants given to me (sometimes against my will) from my professors and advisors. i had to hear things i didn't want to hear and do things i didn't always want to do but i am incredibly grateful to all my peeps in mcguffey hall because they truly made me into the best teacher i can be. i also have to thank my student teaching family, be them peers and co-teachers. i walked into student teaching on my first day so nervous i thought i was legitimately going to throw up on the children for fear that i would not be received. much to my delight, i had nothing to worry about. my co-teacher (also my spirit animal) welcomed me with open arms and shared her precious classroom of nuggets with me no questions asked. i am forever appreciative of her and all she has done for me. lastly, i am appreciative of my kids. my family. my own personal pack of crazies. they are wacky, sticky, and full of life. they are my people and i love them to the moon and back. i believe in them. and today, i was reminded just how much they believe in me. it feels pretty damn good to be believed in like that. to have a child believe in you. to genuinely believe that you are capable of anything. if you see a teacher this week, thank him/her. and to all my personal teachers, thank you. xo, ld
